A gate made for your opening
No two driveways are the same. Ground falls away, pillars are not quite square, brickwork is a different height on each side, and the width is whatever the original builder happened to leave. A gate bought off the shelf has to be forced to fit all of that. A gate made for it simply fits.
We measure your opening, work out the design with you, then cut and weld the gate in our workshop before fitting it ourselves. That means the hinge positions, the ground clearance, the drop and the swing are all worked out for your site rather than assumed.
Sliding or swinging?
Swing gates are the classic choice and usually the cheaper one. They need clear space to open into, and they need a reasonably level surface — a driveway that rises towards the house will limit how far a swing gate can travel unless it is hung to allow for it.
Sliding gates run sideways along a track and need no swing space at all, which makes them the answer on short driveways, on slopes, and anywhere a swinging leaf would foul a parked car. They are heavier and more involved to build, so the frame and the section have to be right — we regularly fabricate sliding gates up to five metres.
If you are not sure which suits your driveway, that is exactly the sort of thing to ask us before you commit to anything.
Electric gates
Automation is worth deciding on early, even if you fit it later. An automated gate needs a stiffer frame, a track and foundation designed for the drive, and a cable route planned before the groundwork is finished. Retrofitting all of that to a gate built for hand operation is possible but rarely tidy.
Tell us at the design stage that you want it automated — or that you might want it automated one day — and we will build it to take the motor.
Design: bring us anything
Some customers want traditional scrollwork and a curved top rail. Some want flat bar, straight lines and nothing decorative at all. Some want the gate to disappear entirely behind a solid composite face.
Bring a sketch, a photograph of something you liked, or just a description. We will tell you what will work, what will not, and what it will look like in ten years.
Materials and finish
Most gates are fabricated in mild steel and then finished — the traditional, strongest and most cost-effective route. Stainless steel suits contemporary designs and coastal or exposed sites. Aluminium is lighter, which matters on very wide leaves and on some automated installations.
Whatever the frame, wood or composite infills can be fitted within it if you want privacy or a solid panel rather than bars.
What happens next
Get in touch with the width of your opening, a rough idea of the style, and a photo of the space if you have one. We will talk through the options, agree a design, and give you a price for the gate made and fitted.
We design, make and hang gates right across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire — Nottingham, Derby, Long Eaton, Beeston, Ilkeston and the villages between — and we take gate work in and around Birmingham too.
